The ASERCOM Convention 2025, held on 24 January in Brussels, provided key insights into the refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump (RACHP) sector. The event focused on three main areas: policy, market trends, and industry challenges.

Pioneering Technology: Single Pair Ethernet

A major highlight was ASERCOM’s partnership with the Single Pair Ethernet System Alliance, aiming to drive adoption of Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) in the RACHP industry. SPE enables cost-efficient data and power transmission over a single copper wire pair, enhancing cybersecurity, bandwidth, and sustainability.

Simon Seereiner, Chairman of the System Alliance, called SPE a “game-changer for Industry 4.0,” while Dr Christian Ellwein, Co-Lead of ASERCOM’s Electronics Working Group, stressed its importance for secure digitalisation and communication.

Expanding Scope and New Initiatives

“ASERCOM made significant strides in 2024, yet its journey continues. The Steering Committee has expanded the scope of the ESG and Refrigerant Working Groups to address emerging regulatory challenges. A new Working Group is also in development to broaden market coverage,” Marco Masini, ASERCOM president says.

The Electronics Working Group has introduced a breakthrough service: Electronic Data Sheets for Modbus for manufacturers, tackling the inconsistencies of the widely used Modbus protocol. Additionally, a powerful refrigerant properties tool is set for launch, developed in collaboration with IPU, a team of specialists in advanced product and process technology.

Policy, Market Trends, and Challenges

The policy section covered ASERCOM’s branding success, the EU’s political agenda, and fair competition in the sector. Key topics included the impact of new F-Gas regulations and the universal PFAS ban. Market insights explored heat pump innovations, cybersecurity, and grid stability as essential factors for efficient RACHP applications. The ASERCOM Convention 2025 united experts from all over Europe to shape the industry’s future. The SPE initiative and strategic discussions reinforced ASERCOM’s commitment to a sustainable, digitally connected future.
